During Christmas & new year, most of us not only ruin their diet, but also add up extra pounds & gain stubborn fat. Excessive & calorie dense diet is the main reason for weight gain which is further multiplied by lack of physical activity & exercise.
We tend to do away with our fitness & nutrition goals during festive season since we usually we do not have time for workouts & hardly resist sweets & calorie dense foods. This is the reason gyms & fitness centers are flooded with new membership post festive seasons. However with some of tips detailed below, you can enjoy the holidays as well as maintain your fitness.
-
- Eat before heading out: The best way is to have a wholesome meal before going out on parties &/or visiting friends/relatives for dinner. Since you have had a supper, you will not be inclined to indulge in over/excessive eating. Skipping meals is never an option since you end up eating more.
- Select the treats: Select what you can consume in a wise manner. You should go ahead with something which you can eat only during festive time & is not readily available all the time.
- Do not skip meals: Do not skip meals to compensate for last night’s excessive eating since it will give counterproductive results.
- Regulate your drinks: Prefer consuming alcohol, juices or aerated drinks in moderation since consuming such drinks in excess will add up to calories.
- Stay active: Even if you do not have time to hit the gym, stay active by indulging in NEAT activities, refer to my blog.
- Get out of the house: Make holidays a family affair & prefer outdoor activities where everyone is involved. This will help in burning calories & even keep children engaged
- Do not skip your strength workout: Always remember to perform strength & endurance training to maintain that muscle mass for which you worked so hard to come in shape. Even if you do not have time to go to gym, prefer doing strength training at home using body weights/ calisthenics training. Join our calisthenics training to get that fit body.
- Drink a lot of water: This will keep you hydrated & overcome lethargy & hangover if you overdo alcohol consumption
- Set realistic goals: Focus on doing workout everyday even if you can do it for only 30 minutes or so. It will help you keep your metabolism level intact
- Eat less & more often: Instead of having 3 big meals, prefer having 4 to 5 smaller meals at regular intervals.
- Prioritize your workouts: Prefer doing workout during morning hours when everyone is asleep. This help you stay active & also prevent comments from your cousin such as “ Oh boy, common this is christmas”
