Most people think Bananas are fattening since they contain sugar -sucrose, glucose & fructose in high quantity. However this is not true. Bananas have following health benefits:
- Bananas are rich source of nutrients & contains vital components such as Potassium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Magnesium, Copper, Fibers and antioxidants. Components such as Potassium & Magnesium helps in lowering risk of heart diseases. Besides, they have little protein & no fat.
- Bananas contain Pectin which has high fibre content. Unripe Bananas has resistant starch which is soluble fibre. Both moderates blood sugar level when taken after meals & reduce appetite by slow emptying of stomach.
- With low to medium Glycemic Index(GI), Bananas does not spike sugar levels. However it may be noted that this does not apply to type 2 diabetes & they should avoid eating ripened bananas.
