Most people think Bananas are fattening since they contain sugar -sucrose, glucose & fructose in high quantity. However this is not true. Bananas have following health benefits:

  1. Bananas are rich source of nutrients & contains vital components such as Potassium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Magnesium, Copper, Fibers and antioxidants. Components such as Potassium & Magnesium helps in lowering risk of heart diseases. Besides, they have little protein & no fat.
  2. Bananas contain Pectin which has high fibre content. Unripe Bananas has resistant starch which is soluble fibre. Both moderates blood sugar level when taken after meals & reduce appetite by slow emptying of stomach.
  3. With low to medium Glycemic Index(GI), Bananas does not spike sugar levels. However it may be noted that this does not apply to type 2 diabetes & they should avoid eating ripened bananas.
