What is the best time to consume fruits?

  • by

Fruits offer great nutrients, vitamins & minerals, contains fibre & acts as antioxidants. However there have been a lot of deliberations & discussions on what is the best time to consume fruit. I am going to discuss & share insights on myths about fruit consumption

1. Consuming foods with empty stomach

There is a misconception that consuming fruits along with a meal slows down the digestion process & makes food sit in your stomach & rot. Fibre in the fruit do slows down the digestion process but it does not make food rot. In fact, slowing down digestion process helps you feel full resulting in less consumption of calories. Further, consuming fruits along with meal does not lead to stomach bloating.

2. Eating fruits before or after meal reduces their nutrient value

Whenever you consume food, your body acts as reservoir & release small amount of food so that it can be easily digested by the intestine. Further small intestine is designed to consume as much nutrients as possible. Huge absorption area means that your body can digest all the nutrients from the fruit whether you consume empty stomach or after meal.

3. In case you’re diabetic, you should consume fruits 1-2 hours before or after the meal.

Diabetic people usually have digestive problems, while eating fruit separately improved digestion. However, there’s isn’t a scientific evidence supporting this fact. Rather than consuming the fruit separately, it’s better to pair it with food high in protein, fiber, or fat.

Conclusion

There’s no specific time to eat fruit. Fruits are healthy, nutritious and weight loss friendly foods that can be eaten throughout the day. Due to presence of fiber in fruit, it keeps you full. This may cause you to consume few calories and help in weight loss.
