The following seven biological mechanisms, encompassing 27 biological pathway scores, based on functional activity of your oral microbiome are combined mathematically to detect onset & progression of oral cancer.
Oral Microbial metabolism of sulfur containing amino acids triggers secretion of volatile sulfur compounds(VSC) which is the main reason for periodontal disease & halitosis. The over expression of enzymes & microbial genes that produce VSC increase tumour survival & promote tumour dedifferentiation. A higher activity level of this molecular mechanism is an indication of movement towards tumour development & growth.
Pro-inflammatory metabolites secreted by oral microbiome provide evidence for a dysbiosis model for role of oral microbiome in development of oral cancer(OSCC). We look at 11 microbial pathways that trigger pro-inflammatory activities favoring carcinogenesis.
Certain commensal microbes living in the oral cavity promote innate immunity by suppressing pro-inflammatory activities as well as promoting anti-inflammatory stuff such as bacteriocin & oral biofilm that suppresses virulence microbial activities involved in periodontal disease. We measure these activities to predict onset & progression of cancer.
Protein fermentation is a byproduct of your oral microbes synthesizing different amino acids that creates a favourable environment for growth of tumour & cancer cell proliferation. Altered Polyamines & ammonia metabolism is involved in transformation & tumor progression. We measure the level of production of these fermentation byproducts to assess the movement towards or away from cancer.
Altered glucose, amino acid & lipid metabolism is involved in feeding the cancer cells which uncouples glycolysis from TCA cycle and oxidative phosphorylation.As a result, glycolysis-derived pyruvate is diverted to lactate fermentation and kept away from mitochondrial oxidative metabolism The intermediate glycolytic metabolites provide essential anabolic support for cell proliferation and tumour growth. ORAONCO analyzes the biochemical functions of oral microbial species from the molecules collected from saliva samples to detect pre-lesion biological signals associated with oral cancer. Our test blends 22 functional pathways that provide an indication for a person moving towards or away from oral cancer.
The test provides an output which classifies a person likely /unlikely to have oral cancer(OSCC). The results signify any/all detected molecular signatures of oral cancer. In case , the cancer is early detected, our empanelled healthcare practitioner will explain to you all the results in detail.
The test is not meant for diagnosis and should be interpreted in conjunction with other laboratory evaluations and relevant guidelines on the decision for confirmatory diagnosis, such as a biopsy.

Important Information

ORAONCO is recommended for adults with medium to high risk for oral cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity or hypertension & those with history of smoking, chewing tobacco, vaping, alcohol consumption , or individuals with a high risk of HPV. ORAONCO only tests for oral cancer should be used in conjunction with routine tests such as biopsy, PET scans & other investigations as recommended by your healthcare provider.
Results should be interpreted in relation to medical history and current symptoms. In order to evaluate your risk, you should re-test every 6 months as result “ not detected” does not rule out cancer. A test result of “DETECTED” requires confirmation via diagnostic evaluation such as biopsy or histopathological methods to confirm cancer.
