Biohacking through daily high fat intake: Will it work for you?

  • by

You generally treat your body as if it is a machine. A motorbike that you can keep running by fine tuning the engine & you are the mechanic. By giving your body everything it needs for optimal bodily functions, you are increasing your life expectancy – you are biohacking your body.

Let us discuss how you can use genetic insights through Passion for Fitness to further biohack your body. Nutrition & physical training are two tools that keep your body running efficiently at its peak performance. What if you could deliver more than that for your body? What if you could rewire your body by using the basic information you have to your advantage?

All answers to these biohacking questions can be discovered through your genetics. Now you can take care of your health & overall fitness without relying on trial & error method or guesswork.

One of the most common biohack is to increase your daily fat intake. The best way of increasing your fat intake is to have a cup of bulletproof coffee every morning. It kills off your cravings, improves your metabolism & cognitive function. However, will this work for everyone? What if you have high genetic risk to saturated fat sensitivity? You may experience weight gain if you consume saturated fat in excess of 6%.  What if you have high caffeine sensitivity? You can be exposed to risk of cardiovascular diseases. But does that mean you cannot enjoy Bulletproof coffee. Not Really! You just need to smartly plan your meals for the day. Let us discuss this in detail.

By getting to know about information your genes tell you, you can manipulate your nutrition, fitness & lifestyle to improve your health quotient. After evaluating the genetic insights, results of your genetic testing, we would be able to figure out how your current diet & lifestyle impacts your health & sensitivity to various components such as caffeine, saturated fat level, unsaturated fat levels & lactose intolerance (to name a few) will help determine a desirable nutrition program.

So if you have a genetic risk for high saturated fat, what does it mean for the rest of the day? You need to track the remainder of your fat intake. If you are unaware what high saturated fat sensitivity means for your body, just remember that you will start gaining weight if your daily saturated fat intake exceeds 6% of your daily calories intake. So if you are following a bulletproof diet with 50% to 70% of  diet coming from fat intake & have high saturated fat sensitivity, be mindful of what kind of fat you are consuming in your coffee & reminder of your daily meals.

Simply by substituting the fat which you consume regularly with other food items (rich in polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fat) such as olive oil, peanut butter, avocados or hummus, you can fall within the threshold limit of 6% saturated fat intake.

DNA insights which you would get from Passion for Fitness will guide you through your nutrition journey. You do not need to remove fat from your diet altogether, just minimise the consumption of saturated fat & trans fat as much as you can. Include the following fat sources & /or foods in your diet:

  1. Wild fish
  2. Avocados
  3. Olive Oil
  4. Fruits
  5. Vegetables
  6. Lean meat
  7. Eggs

Let us now discuss caffeine sensitivity. We have explained caffeine sensitivity in detail in our earlier blog . Briefly, if you have high caffeine sensitivity, having 3 to 4 cups of coffee every day would cause an increase in your blood pressure or increase risk of your bone mineral density. Slow caffeine metabolizers (high caffeine sensitivity) should not consume coffee in excess of 200 ml per day.

Do not consider Biohacking a quick fix. However, it is definitely a way to get around your body limitations. By undergoing a genomic testing, you can hack your biology & take control of your body which you would never have access to. Your objective is to change your body & mind so that you have full control over it. By learning about genetic insights, you know what food to avoid, how you can hack around do’s & don’ts & what food/nutrition would be beneficial for your body.
